Mangaluru, Mar 21: Mangaluru bishop Dr Peter Paul Saldanha has appealed to the members of Diocese to follow the call by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on containing spread of COVID-19, by observing Janata Curfew.

In an open letter, the bishop said that public liturgical services have already been suspended. However, to make Janata Curfew successful, he requested people to strictly stay at home from 7 am to 9 pm on March 22. He also requested people to cancel private services, including visits to churches and Blessed Sacrament chapels.

The bishop has directed for bells to be pealed across churches and chapels of the diocese at 5 pm as a humble expression of gratitude towards those who are rendering noble and selfless service during the moments of crisis. The bishop also appealed to people of the diocese to express their gratitude by clapping at 5 pm.

“It is our bounden duty to pray for all people of the world, and especially follow special prayers for those who are sick and those who assist them. Let us not forget to intercede between God for those who plan and execute the measures to eradicate the menace of the pandemic. Let us use this God-given opportunity to express the reality of the family as the ‘domestic church’ where we come together in faith, love and prayer. Mangala Jyothi has already sent material to indicate the way we can organize prayer meeting within the family to sanctify the Lord’s Day. Let intense prayer rise before God to protect the whole humanity,” the bishop wrote in his letter.

The entire world is aghast, and rightly so, as the scourge of Coronavirus, has put the fear of the devil, right in their midst !!! Yesterday the body bags, has shocking increased to 800 deaths... The cemetery has no place for them... hence the army has been entrusted with cremation of all dead bodies !!!!! Mourners are discouraged from even attending their loved ones funeral !!!! Spain and other European nations are quickly following the path of Italy !! Bishop Saldhana, realizes the grave situation, seeing daily death parade in Italy... The Vatican is perplexed and shocked, but can do very little, but shut down Churches indefinitely !!!!!

Lan..sir,. Definitely i will record the ringing of our church bells and will share with you. Let it reach to USA. Yes...present bishop is from Kirem. He may not know me since he was away from kirem for his religious studies. I remember during his vacation he used to come along with other brotgers to our parish and teach us choir...attend rosary during month of May at the grotto daily. After ordination he was teaching in Rome. Ever since he could not come to kirem we forgot him completely till he became our bishop. He is really a gem of person. May god bless him and you too...

Jossey sir, whats wrong in following good things from others ??? We are showing gratitude to those who really work for us people day and night inspite of risks of getting infected and keeping away from their families. They have to be on duty whenever management asks them to do so. Otherwise there are possibilities of loosing their jobs. You are so wise and intelligent... At present, they are like gods to human beings dear.....lets appreciate them na ??
