Congress leader Hashmi postpones daughter's wedding

New Delhi, Mar 21 (IANS): Former Congress MP Parvez Hashmi has postponed his daughter's wedding scheduled for April 4 as a precaution against coronavirus outbreak.

"I have postponed the wedding ceremony because precaution is necessary and safety of the people is important. The wedding date will be decided later," Hashmi told IANS.

The wedding of his daughter was to be solemnized at 5 Ashoka Road in Lutyens' zone but now, preparations have been cancelled.

"Everybody should take precaution and should not allow large gatherings and, if possible, should cancel all social engagements".

The Prime Minister has called for 'Janta curfew' on Sunday.

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the country has reached 283, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Saturday.

Of the 283, 244 are Indian national while 39 are foreigners. Twenty-three individuals have recovered and have been discharged from the hospital while one person has migrated to another country.

Four casualties have been reported in India so far -- one each in Karnataka, Maharashtra, Punjab and Delhi.
