CRPF foils terror attack plan in Bihar, seizes 64 IEDs

Aurangabad (Bihar), Mar 23 (IANS): The CRPF on Monday said its personnel thwarted a terror strike plot by detecting and seizing 64 IEDs planted in a forested area in Aurangabad in Bihar.

The Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) were detected during an operation by Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) - an elite unit of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) -- and 153 Battalion of the CRPF.

"An operation was launched by 205 CoBRA Battalion and 153 Battalion at about 5 am following reliable input provided by CRPF's intelligence wing about planting of IEDs in Lahangsthan area near Sahiyari village in Madanpur district," CRPF DIG M. Dinakaran told IANS.

"The personnel detected a series of 64 IEDs around 1 pm and secured the area. The process to deactivate the IEDs is underway."

The IEDs were seized a day after a joint team of security forces recovered the bodies of 17 Chhattisgarh policemen killed in a gunbattle with Maoists in the forests of Chhattisgarh's insurgency-hit Sukma district.

Of the 17 bodies, 12 were of District Reserve Guard personnel and five of Special Task Force.
