Mangalore, Nov 27 : The premiere of “Kazaar” (wedding), the Konkani movie, the first from the banner of Ferns Movie International, directed by Richard Castelino of Bangar Patler fame was held today at Adlabs Bharath Big Cinema with all the fanfare and glitter. Bishop of Mangalore Diocese Rt Rev Aloysius Paul D Souza was the chief guest on the occasion.  A galaxy of eminent personalities Fr Nelson Pinto, former MLA and producer Nagaraj Shetty,

Jagadish Adhikari, Ivan D Souza, A J Shetty, Ravi Santhosh Kamath, Eric Ozario, Roy Castelino, Rohan Monteiro, Editor-in-Chief of Daijiworld.com Walter Nandalike, journalist Gabriel Vaz, upcoming actress Namrutha Hegde, lead actor of Kazaar Larry Fernandes and many others were present at the brief function held prior to the first show.

Speaking on the occasion Bishop Aloysius Paul D Souza stated that the family values projected by the movie should be adopted by all the families in the daily lives to make life more meaningful.  He wished the movie all success at the box office.

Director of the movie Richard Castelino who has also written the story and dialogues for the movie pointed out that language is important for the growth of culture and that is why Konkani which is spoken by bout 4 lakh people plays a crucial role in enriching our culture.  “For any cinema to be able to understand language is secondary.  “Kazaar is a movie which promotes family values.  It can be watched by all people irrespective of the language people are familiar with.  It is a tragedy that Konkani and Tulu speaking people are neglecting their respective languages to the detriment of its growth”, he lamented.

Builder Roy Castelino pointed out that catholic community is lagging far behind in providing necessary support and encouragement for their language to flourish.  He called upon the catholic community to extend whole hearted support for the film.

The movie “Kazaar” is nothing but an extension of the traditional Catholic weddings.  The storyline is woven around the young couple and their wedding, which therefore gives a vivid picture of the traditional catholic marriage related rituals including engagement and roce.

The lead actors Larry Fernandes (son of producer David Frank Fernandes) and Harshika Poonacha are tolerable doing justice to their roles as romantic couple.  The hero is at ease with the camera and also is comfortable in intimate romantic scenes. Heroine Poonacha is quite photogenic and adds vibrancy to her role as Lovina.  With a better storyline and with little more effort in direction the lead pair could have excelled in their respective roles.

Photography by Mallikarjuna is much to be desired and is good only in patches. In some scenes the top portion of the scene including that of actors is chopped off which reflects the mediocrity or the lack of professionalism in the work.  Music for the movie is provided by Wilfy and Ragdev which is no doubt a good effort as the songs are humable and are etched in the memory.  Song pasteurization is adequate but again in patches.

Over all it is a commendable effort on the part of producer and Director from the point of view of promoting Konkani language and culture through cinema.  Some more efforts on the part of the director would have gone a long way in taking the movie a notch above its present level. Nonetheless the producer, director and all the crew deserve a pat on the back for their Herculean efforts.

I dont know if the movie will be a hit or not, but I would like to watch it once, the title doesn't sound too promising or interesting though, As far as promoting the konkanni language is concerned, I myself am planning to make movies and albums in future to match up the western pace( with animated konkanni movies and special effects and great stories and rock pop/techno konkanni songs) somethign that will add effect to the language and promote the same without a doubt, just that all i need is more support and interest from konkanni speaking youth and aged people likewise hope this movie makes it to the top ! Regards
