Festival of Christmas Carols at Loyola Hall Makes for a Melodious Evening

Karnataka Christian Communication Service (KCCS) and Mangalore Diocesan Ecumenical Commission, in association with Shalom Music Academy, Bangalore, presented a festival of Christmas carols at Loyola Hall on Saturday November 28. 

A carol singing competition was also part of the festival. The festival was inaugurated by Reginald Jagadeesh, director, Shalom Music Academy, in the presence of Fr Joseph Rodrigues, rector, St Aloysius College, and Dr Honey Cabral, principal, Karnataka Theological College and secretary of KCCS.



Eighteen teams participated in the singing of carols with Kannada lyrics which have been newly-written and composed.  There were teams from all over coastal Karnataka.

Many in the audience enjoyed the carols made special by the new songs.
 
Students of St Aloysius High School and Kittel High School in Gorigudda presented cultural programmes. Children of CSI Sushanthi Church in Mercara Hill presented a special dance.

Students of Fr Muller Institute of Homeopathy presented a mime show. Eminent musicians—Charan from the city, Joyful from Mysore, Mohan Raj from Bangalore, and Fr Valerian Mendonca, director of Sandesha Foundation—were the judges for the carol competition.
 
First prize was Rs 10,000 while second prize was Rs 8,000 and the third prize was Rs 7,000. All three winners also received trophies. There are five consolation prizes with Rs 5,000 each. 

The first prize went to the team from God the Holy Spirit Church, Bajal, while second prize was bagged by the senior’s team from Milagres Church, Mangalore, and Shanthi Cathedral, Balmata, came in third.

Fr J B Saldhanha, director of Mangalore Diocesan Ecumenical Commission, welcomed all. Rev P C James, director-in- charge of KCCS, proposed the vote of thanks.

Dr Sudeep Pais from the orthopaedics department of Fr Muller Hospital and Hanica of SDM College compered the programme.
