Oil tankers, LPG truck drivers demand highway eateries

Jammu, Mar 27 (IANS): The oil and LPG truck drivers union on Friday demanded roadside eateries to support long journeys undertaken by drivers and helpers who ferry essential commodities.

S.Ranjit Singh Raina, president of the union, has appealed to the J&K government to direct all district magistrates of the areas through which the national highway passes, to ensure that a minimum number of dhabas' (roadside eateries) remain open so that drivers and helpers get food during long journeys.

Raina said drivers are carrying on with their job to ensure that there are no shortages of petroleum products and cooking gas despite the grave risk of COVID-19 due to which most citizens are staying indoors.
