Mangaluru: Coronavirus effect - Fishing activity at local dock freezes

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Mar 28: Because of the threat of coronavirus (COVID-19) virus spreading far and wide, the deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district, through an order issued on Friday March 27, closed down the fishing dock here which is the hub of fishing activities in the city.

The fishermen explained their predicament at not being able to sell huge heaps of fishes they had caught on Wednesday.

Some of the fishermen reached the spot where fish is being marketed, by obtaining police permission. All the boats which had ventured into the sea for fishing have reached Bunder area where they are anchored.

Those boats which are still at sea have been given the messages to return. The fisheries department, which observed that 400 boats were at the dock and that the area had dense movement of people, got orders issued for shutting down the dock.

Maybe distribute at lower prices ..home delivery ..use the services of govt approved self help groups for distribution.
I am not sure if these are fresh fish from the sea .or taken out from ice cans ..I surely have trust deficit.

Two views on dealing with Covid-19:

    (1) The majority view: Everyone goes into isolation, so no one gets infected.

But this wrecks the national economy, and causes huge unemployment!

    (2) A small minority's view: Let all healthy people get the virus. They will then build immunity against it. So, if the virus were to reappear (as it likely will), we do not need to go into isolation over and over again.

I have supported the second view.

Google 'herd immunity' it talks about the same thing.

People are of the perception that if they get the virus they will die..but the statistics show only between 1-2% will die (usually 80+ age), and the rest will develop immunity, after enduring the virus symptoms (mild for some, intense for others- but they will not die). This is a better way to control the virus. Because at the end of the day, most of us 60% of population will be exposed to the virus, mostly with very mild symptoms

    1. More than 80% of people get only mild symptoms (mainly flu like symptoms) and do not need hospitalisation.
    2. The mortality rate is only 10%.
    3. Chinese data says mortality rate with the population of age group between 20 and 50 is only 6%.
    4. The vulnerable group are: elderly population, People with multiple co-morbidity (other health issues), people with compromised (who have cancer and had cancer treatment, severe heart/kidney/liver disease and other diseases related to immunity)
    5. Once recovered from Covid, they do get immunity and can join the workforce.
    6. The thing we need to do is to stop the spread and hence all these precautions.
    7. Close contacts of the confirmed cases have to be isolated to avoid further spread. The definition of close contact is face to face for more than 15 minutes and more than 2 hours in confined place like house, work place, train, bus, flight, cruise ship.
