Bantwal, Mar 30: The state's border with Kerala has been sealed on account of increased number of coronavirus-positive cases being detected in Kasargod. On Sunday, March 29, Karnataka police confiscated three vehicles from Chekkutti near Saradka in the taluk on the allegation of violating restrictions placed by the authorities. The operation was undertaken by the police personnel of Vittal station.

It is being said that Kerala vehicles have been entering Dakshina Kannada district by using a pathway meant for pedestrians located within Punacha gram panchayat. Two motorbikes and a car which were allegedly being used to transport the people from Kerala into Karnataka were confiscated by Vittal station house officer Vinod Reddy on Sunday. A case was also registered about this incident at Vittal police station.

There have been complaints about vehicles using long and intricate inner roads to enter Karnataka by hoodwinking officials stationed at the main roads after Saradka check post was closed for movement of vehicles. Kepu gram panchayat president Taranath Alva, in a letter sent to the deputy commissioner and superintendent of police of the district as well as other officials, had asked them to direct the public works department to close small roads leading into Dakshina Kannada district by heaping mud across such roads. He pointed out that there are several interior ways to reach his village from Kerala. He therefore stressed the need to block all the roads till the lockdown order lasts, duly withstanding pressure if any being brought by Kerala state.
