Mangaluru: Police commissioner warns vehicle owners senselessly treading roads during lockdown

Mangaluru, Mar 30: City police commissioner Dr P S Harsha, has sounded a strong warning to people who are found to be roaming around the roads during lockdown period without purpose unnecessarily.

Taking to Twitter to express his concern, the commissioner said that the police have noticed that some people have been going around on merry rides on the roads.

He said that both two-wheeler and four- wheeler riders engage in such joyrides.

"Our traffic division has noted down the registration numbers of such vehicles. The officials will soon be approaching the owners of vehicles for seizing the vehicles. Take note of the initiative, comply with lockdown instructions and stop risking the lives of other citizens," he warned in a curtly worded message to the people.

    College students, ladies are not on roads. They are fully observing lock down. If jolly and gay riding is found then take action deemed fit to stop this nuisance. What their parents are doing?

    Sir, Warning does not help and you need to use all your powers within the law and teach lessons to violators in the language they understand the best. Seizure of vehicles should be along with hefty fines so that people will feel the cost of violations.

    Mangalore and for that matter the country is going through a difficult phase and it important that the rules imposed for the good of the people are strictly adhered to.

    Tell me, how can you tell the difference at all? There is a crisis going on, people are searching for necessities. If my car gets taken away i dont know what else to do. I am constantly searching for supplies as there are no online services as proposed by the MCC. The whole situation is being managed improperly.

    You may be genuine, but there is a huge bunch of fools around. If you happen to be living on a roadside property, just sit down for an hour and monitor the road and you will understand what I am saying. I don't know how to describe such mental illness. These fools derive senseless pleasure by doing such things eg: breaking curfew, damaging public property, eve teasing, spitting etc. These are the people who should be made to suffer serious consequences. First their vehicles should be confiscated, then they should be fined and then additionally they should be made to go around and collect garbage, made to sanitize roads, sweep dirty areas, serve food and drink to public servants who are on duty.

    AM, kuntikana: Si they are talking about people roaming when there is curfew or complete lock down. Try to understand. When relaxation is there you go out purchase the stuff and sit at home. When the shops are closed what is the necessity to go out?

    Very good decision. Please publish few offenders photo, name and vehicle picture through TV Media and news papers, automatically these types of citizens will educate. Bye the time alert citizens by announcing messages by Mobile patrolling vehicles in almost all city areas.

    A welcome step by the Administration.

    Seizure if done at spot is good. Those vehicles can be taken to nearest PS and kept there till the curfew is in force. Later such vehicles can be handed over to the respective owners.
