Bengaluru, Apr 1: National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has already declared Bengaluru city as coronavirus hotspot. Now, the state government has classified four districts of Karnataka as the red zone.

In addition to Bengaluru, Mysuru, Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada and Chikkaballapur districts have been declared as the red zone by the state government. The officials also said that some rural areas are being grouped as a buffer zone to regulate the spread of coronavirus.

The government has already initiated tough measures in the red zone to exercise control over the dreaded disease. Bengaluru city with a population of over 1.2 crores mostly comprises of IT-related workers. Therefore, a need to be vigilant about the city was felt, said medical education minister, K Sudhakar. He also stressed that there is a need to take additional care in this city.

Tough measures are being taken in the city and districts brought under the red zone. House to house visits to educate people about coronavirus will be intensified and a close watch will be kept on people who have come in contact with quarantined people. The lockdown programme started in these districts will be tightened further.

Around 13 people from Mysuru district have already been confirmed to be suffering from the infection. People of Mysuru and Chamarajanagar areas are worried as some employees of a pharma company in Nanjangud have tested positive. Police patrolling has been intensified in Mysuru and the district has made elaborate arrangements to shift people having contacts with the infected persons from home quarantine to mass quarantine.
