Bengaluru: State to permit fishing with limitations

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Apr 3: The state government has decided to allow fishing activity till April 14 in spite of lockdown, in a restricted way. This decision has been taken to see that the people get fish that is rich in proteins and to help over 9,000 fishermen in the coast and other fishermen who are engaged in inland fishing to eke out a living.

The government has imposed certain restrictions on fishing. The conditions are that in coastal districts, fishing can be conducted only through country boats in traditional manner. In reservoirs, fishermen holding licences can catch fish by using their coracles. The fish so caught should be brought and kept separately at the coast or banks. When selling fish, social distancing should be maintained and it should be ensured that the area is not crowded. Depending on the local traditions, local administrations should permit door-to-door sale or sale through stalls. For fish transportation, collection and preservation, support of fishing development corporation and cooperative fishing federation can be obtained. The deputy commissioners can take steps to issue passes for fishing and sell fish through shops.
