Covid-19 fears: No bail for Rana Kapoor

Mumbai, Apr 3 (IANS): A Mumbai court refused to grant bail to Yes Bank founder Rana Kapoor, and he will continue to remain in judicial custody till April 16, his lawyer said here on Friday.

"We had made a plea, seeking bail in view of the coronavirus pandemic and the risks that he faced in jail in view of his health condition. However that has been rejected," said advocate Subhash Jadhav.

In the bail plea, the 62-year old Kapoor had contended that he was suffering from severe hypertension, anxiety, depression and chronic immunodeficiency syndrome, besides a long history of asthma which put him at great risk due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

The Enforcement Directorate had arrested Kapoor on March 8 in connection with a money laundering case, besides another case filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), and he has been in custody since nearly a month now.
