Kerala family donates money kept for mother's post-death rituals


Kochi, Apr 4 (IANS): Three United Arab Emirates (UAE)-based Indian drivers A family in the city on Saturday handed over Rs 50,000 it had kept aside to hold their mother's post-death rituals to a community kitchen unit that provides food to the locality.

The money was collected by local Congress legislator P.T. Thomas who appreciated the act.

"We had kept aside this money to hold the post death rituals. We heard about the functioning of a community kitchen near our house and decided to hand over the money to them," said Pradeep, son of the deceased.

The general norm in many Hindu households in the state is to hold a remembrance day function, a few days after death.
