150 held in Kolkata for bursting crackers

Kolkata, Apr 6 (IANS): The Kolkata police has arrested 150 persons so far for bursting firecrackers on Sunday night, a senior officer said on Monday.

"The number of arrests is 150," Joint Commissioner (Crime) of City Police Murlidhar Sharma told IANS.

The firecrackers were burst by a section of over-enthusiastic people around 9 pm as lakhs of Kolkatans switched off lights and lit candles or diyas in response to a call by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Many people had also violated the lockdown and taken to the streets to hold marches while carrying candles and torches.
