Himachal's lone CPI-M MLA donates salary to fight COVID-19

Shimla, Apr 9 (IANS): As a goodwill gesture, Himachal Pradesh's lone Communist Party of India (Marxist) Legislator Rakesh Singha has announced to donate his salary as a lawmaker for the Chief Minister's Relief Fund to fight Covid-19.

He is the lone Legislator who has announced to donate his salary in the BJP-ruled state.

Singha has asked authorities to transfer his salary from April to December to the relief fund. Earlier, he donated his salary for February and March for the fund.

The state Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, on April 7 decided to reduce salaries and honorariums of the Council of Ministers and legislators by 30 per cent for a year.

Also it was decided to suspend the MLA Area Development Fund given to each Legislator for development works in his constituency for a period of two years.

Singha, who was elected to the state Assembly the second time, is a prominent apple grower from upper Shimla.
