Army provides essential items to tribals in Nilgiris


Chennai, Apr 11 (IANS): The Indian Army through its Army Wives Welfare Association provided over 1,000 kg essential items to the Irula Tribal Community in the Nilgiris district in Tamil Nadu.

In a statement, the government said on receipt of SOS call from the Irula Tribal Community residing about 60 km from Ooty, the Indian Army provided them with ready to eat meals, water and groceries in the form of rice, atta, pulses, oil and others for sustenance to about 100 families in coordination with district administration and the local police.

On April 10, the Indian Army provided 1,000 packets of ready to eat meal besides educating them on the importance of maintaining hygiene and sanitation to prevent the spread of Coronavirus, with the help of civil administration in Wellington, Coonoor and Trichy.
