Bengaluru, Apr 13: Veteran Congress leader, former union minister and member of Karnataka legislative council M V Rajasekharan (91), breathed his last at a hospital here on Monday April 13. He was suffering from age-related ailments and multiple organ failure and was in the hospital for long.

Rajasekharan is survived by wife, Girija Rajasekharan, two sons, and two daughters. He was a resident of Maralawadi in Ramanagara district.

Rajasekharan was an agriculturist and rural development consultant, who was highly respected for his in-depth knowledge about rural economy. He was a politician who laid emphasis on being simple, had humility and maturity, said chief minister of Karnataka B S Yediyurappa.

Rajasekharan was the son-in-law of former chief minister of Karnataka S Nijalingappa. He had set up an institute for studies in rural development.

Rajasekharan had represented Kanakapura constituency in the Lok Sabha. He was the union minister of state for planning and statistics in the past.

Leaders from across the parties and states have mourned the demise of Rajasekharan and recollected his high virtues and abundant knowledge.
