Coronavirus lockdown: PM Modi to address nation at 10 am on April 14

New Delhi, Apr 13 (IANS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation on Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. He is likely to announce the extension of the ongoing nationwide lockdown and exemptions, if any, during the address.

The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) took to Twitter to announce, "Prime Minister @narendramodi will address the nation at 10 a.m. on 14th April 2020."

Earlier, there were indications that the Prime Minister's Office is contemplating a graded lifting of lockdown measures, and marking the country into red, yellow and green zones, depending on the severity of the coronavirus spread.

Government sources say, areas under yellow and green zones may get some exemptions. Moreover, the government is considering giving more reprieve to the agricultural sector, in face of an extension of the current shutdown.

Sources indicated that at least ten Chief ministers "strongly advocated" an extension of the ongoing shutdown during the CM Conference, recently held through video conference. While some Chief Ministers have advised the Prime Minister to extend it "at least for the rest of April", some have advocated "caution", in case he decides against extending it.

On Friday, Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar, during a Facebook address to the ABVP cadre in the JNU, gave the clearest indication of the extended shutdown. "A few states have extended the shutdown because measures such as this are the only ways we can win the battle. If we have to get ready for another 15 days, we will need new volunteers."

The current shutdown ends on the night of April 14, and Prime Minister Modi will address the nation on Tuesday to convey what's in store for them.

All small businessmen, traders, cookie workers economic condition is very critical! Rich people & politicians r enjoying openly celebrating without fear of law!

Any extension of lock-down in the interest of citizen nations is much welcomed. But I appeal to the Prime Minister to come up with comprehensive plan and exit strategy to come of this crisis.

While the mass media giving communal color to the pandemic, the nation has lost 12 crore jobs according to the CMIR data. It is time for India to make use of the opportunity by reviving the rural employment scheme investing in small scale industries. The Japan has already invest $2.2 billion in manufacturing to bring the production back to the country. Many countries are asking its manufacture to invest back in India.

It is time to device a effective strategy away from the 'Clapping' and 'Candle light' that has no 'scientific values'

Give the nation enough time without affecting the supply chain system. Don't give surprises like 'Demonetisation' that has no positive outcome to this date.

Our villages are future of this nation. Think wise and save the nation from economy crisis. Strictly no to communal divisive forces. Our unity is the biggest strength.

    SMR,

Well said, I too am wondering what is the real strategy of the govt. in this critical hour.
The only change this time around is that the PM is addressing the nation in day light, unlike the previous decisions that you had mentioned were announced during Mid night hours!!!!

Whatever the message , Modi makes sense. If its an extension of lock down, people must welcome the measure as one made in their own interest. At the moment with no vaccines around, lock down is the most conceivable option, The exit strategies will only follow after a steady reduction in cases. That is what rest of the world is doing.
Now its up to the people . Lets sincerely hope there is no repetition of congregation at places of worship that becomes the 'super spreader' and contributes to 40% of the total spread.
The state leadership and law has to deal with it with an iron fist and not be mute spectators with a soft corner for their vote bank,
Meanwhile, on Denomination .This had to be surprise and abrupt, if time was allotted, all black marketers would have taken care of the black money they had. The purpose would have been lost,
At this point of time PM is the man of the moment, Majority of the Indians are with him. If not even he would have run of to a constituency down to Kerala to win ON;LY on Muslim votes,

I think the PM has to think of other means. Many of the Mangaloreans esp business men and daily wage earners are of the same view. I am expect a good news tomorrow, If not then , sorry, we have to strongly protest. Its not done. Our opposition leaders need to help us here.

Honourable PM, please make sure to BAN LIQUOR throughout the nation forever which is more dangerous virus than the corona virus. During the last 20 days many drunkards realised their mistakes and are ready to get rid of it due to nonavailability of liquor. Please never ever allow liquor again, you will get blessings from women & children who suffered a lot due to the drunkard family head. Please don't make them dissappointed. For revenue there are plenty of resources in our country. Raid all the corrupt people in the country & confiscate their illegal assets & declare them as national assets,.

    Hat,

Dolan Trump sounded like Golan Heights....Hmmm....

Trumps 'Gun boat diplomacy' is working???...I don't think it was a threat...perhaps combination of miscommunication and typical Indian bureaucratic delay....

As you may be aware Trump is not a professional politician....he is a businessman and actor...his 2200 hotel rooms, all over the world,,, are mostly unoccupied because of this COVID-19....he wants to open then...that's it...Yes there are side effects if you take Hydroxychloroquine....physicians will look at risks and rewards before writing prescription ....

He is interested in opening his business ASAP...its not a threat....if you were in his position ...you would have done same....

To the cynics I say .......
    Bachoge tho Bajayooge na !
The PM has, made it clear that it is the " Lives of the People " that is important to him.
"Jaan Bhi Jahaan Bhi " he said to the CMs next. This means the progress the country had made during Lock Down was more than satisfactory.Had it not been for the Lock Down measures the cases would have crossed the 10 lakh mark !!
He would certainly say something pertinent as always keeping Welfare of people foremost in his mind.
He would not harp about some Foreign Companies taking over Domestic Companies here like a gifted comedian did nor worry about donations to be categorised in these difficult times.
Listen ,follow and feel lucky to have such a PM. If you had not voted him ,we would been under any one of 15 Thugs who had come to Bengalaru in 2018 for someone's swearing in ceremony.
The result ...would have been disastrous and we would have been competing with the US ,UK and Italy in death rates.

Start from your home, Ramesh sir. Hereafter don't run behind imported goods unless they have no substitute at your place or in India. For Example: Is Edible oil import necessary every year, when we had produced oil seeds in our own country and fed this Nation, before opening our Economy. So use Native Oils only for cooking. Farmers will step in fields. Laborers have work for at least 90 days. Transporters can move oil seeds to markets.Crushing of oil seeds start again which directly and indirectly employs lots of labors. Enough cattle feed is generated for cattles. Cattle livestock will not die of hunger. India imported Palm oil @ 22 bucks per litre when our Indigenous oils were 2 to 6 rupees higher per litre. The whole Chain of Edible industry broke down due to imports. Now Palm oil is above 70 Bucks. If we had not imported then ( Imports done because of Drought for 3 years in row), India could have saved foreign exchange,Oil Industry, Secured jobs for those Industry People and dependent labors all these years from 1992.

Similarly see for each and every product India imports and substitute it with indigenous products. Do we need Coca cola and other Foreign Brands?

MAKE IN INDIA Policy of the present Government is correct. Our People must not go out of our Nation seeking Income. Let Industries come up here and generate jobs to all youths. Let us together push out which harms our economy. If India can produce Scholars, Can't it mould Industry Titans? We have sold our brains outside and complaining the present setup. We want Modi to create jobs now .
Corona Virus is not the brainchild of India. But it has hit our Nation due to overseas employment.
