Jamia official sent to police custody for inciting Delhi riots

New Delhi, Apr 14 (IANS): The Special Cell of Delhi Police on Monday arrested the media coordinator of Jamia Coordination Committee (JCC), Safoora Zargar, for allegedly hatching a conspiracy to incite communal riots in the national capital's northeast area.

Widespread violence between people supporting the new citizenship law and those opposing it had spiralled out of control in the area last month, leaving 53 people dead and scores injured.

A Delhi court has now sent Zargar to two-day police custody. She was produced before the court at the end of her two-day police interrogation in another case related to organising anti-CAA protests in Delhi's Jafrabad area last year. She was arrested on April 11 in this matter.

It was after the protest outside the Jafrabad Metro Station that clashes broke out in the area at the end of February.
