Coronavirus: Death toll reaches 9, positive cases rise to 258 in Karnataka


Bengaluru, Apr 14 (IANS): A 69-year-old man from Karnataka's Vijayapura succumbed to COVID-19 even as 11 new people tested positive, raising the tally to 258, an official said on Tuesday, April 14. 

"Till date, 258 COVID-19 positive cases have been confirmed. This includes nine deaths and 65 discharges," said a health official.

The 69-year-old man was designated as the state's 257th case. He was the husband of 221st case. His death marks ninth such case in the state.

Vijayapura is 526 km northwest of Bengaluru.

In the past 19 hours, Karnataka saw three COVID-19 deaths.

Earlier on Tuesday, two deaths emerged from the state, a 65-year-old man from Bengaluru and another 55-year-old man from Kalaburagi.

They were designated as patients 252 and 205 respectively.

The 65-year-old man from the city or the 252nd case also suffered from Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI).

Of the 258 cases, 184 are active, 65 patients got discharged and nine people died.

Of the 11 new cases on Tuesday morning, seven happened to be contacts of earlier cases.

Among the new cases, three emerged from Bagalkot, one from Chikkaballapura, two from Bengaluru Urban, three from Kalaburagi and one each from Vijayapura and Belagavi.

Karnataka's 248th COVID-19 positive case is a 43-year-old man from Bagalkot. He is a contact of cases 186 and 165.

A 32-year-old woman from same place with similar contact history is the 249th case.

Next, a SARI affected 65-year-old man from Chikkaballapura is 250th case.

A neighbour of 125th case, 39-year-old woman from Bagalkot is the 251st case.

The 252nd case was the 65-year-old man from Bengaluru Urban who died on Tuesday. He was Karnataka's eighth COVID-19 death.

A 26-year-old man who rode a two-wheeler from Hindupur, Anathapur District, Andhra Pradesh to the city a week ago tested positive as the 253rd case.

A 10-year-old girl from Kalaburagi emerged as the 254th case. She is a contact of 177th case.

From the same place, a 51-year-old man, brother of 205th case who died on Tuesday, is 255th case. His brother or 205th case was the state's seventh coronavirus death.

Similarly, a 35-year-old woman from the same place tested positive as the 256 case. She is the neighbour of 177th case.

The 257th case was the 69-year-old man who died of the virus.

The last case for Tuesday morning and the state's 258th case is a 33-year-old man from Belagavi with Delhi travel history.

    It's learnt in most of western countries goverment providing all medical facilities plus additional for senior citizens upto death. By which government want to spend much money on them and to keep reserve fund for same purpose. Due to corona virus many elderly people died in western countries and there government not much bothered or either given preference to them. Here in india people who imvolved are of all age group.
