NGT cancels summer vacation to make up for work loss

New Delhi, Apr 14 (IANS): To make up for the loss of working hours due to the lockdown, the National Green Tribunal on Tuesday cancelled the summer vacation scheduled for June.

"The summer vacations for the NGT as scheduled for the month of June 2020, stand cancelled. The NGT would be fully functional for the whole month of June 2020, save for Saturdays, Sundays and gazetted holidays," stated Tribunal's Registrar General Ashu Garg.

The decision came in the backdrop of extension of lockdown till May 3. Earlier, it was imposed from March 25 till today.

During the lockdown period, the tribunal, which is a specialized body equipped to handle environmental disputes, had restricted its functioning only to hearing of urgent matters, while its staff worked from home.
