Spitting banned at public places in Himachal


Shimla, Apr 15 (IANS): To prevent COVID-19 transmission, the state government has prohibited spitting at public places in Himachal Pradesh, an official said on Wednesday.

Earlier, the state has banned the sale and use of chewing gums till June 30.

A statewide ban was imposed to check the possibility of transmission through spitting, Additional Chief Secretary (Health) R.D. Dhiman said.

Those found spitting will be booked under the Epidemic Disease Act and sections of Indian Penal Code.

Out of a total of 1,311 samples tested for COVID-19 so far, 33 have been positive, an official said. At present, the state has 16 active cases.

Besides, 3,765 have completed the mandatory 28-day isolation period.
