RSS begins 'Kutumb Shakhas' to beat lockdown blues


Lucknow/Kanpur, Apr 15 (IANS): The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) members are not allowing the lockdown to affect their daily routine and they are now holding 'Kutumb Shakha' in their homes, maintaining the principle of social distancing.

"The family members get together on the terrace or the garden and we hold the 'Kutumb Shakha' every morning. We being with physical activities like yoga and exercise and then we meditate and read out books related to spiritual learning," said Dr R.S. Bhatnagar, an RSS activist in Lucknow.

He said that more and more families were making this a part of their daily routine.

"It eases mental stress and helps one cope with the lockdown impact. It also increases harmony in the family," said Bhatnagar who is also a homeopath.

The RSS which is playing an active role in relief operations during lockdown, is also spreading messages like "Maximise social distancing and Mitigate COVID-19" among the masses.

"We interact with people while distributing food packets, masks, sanitizers or holding medical camps and we impress upon them the need for social distancing and building up immunity," said R.B. Bhaskar, a volunteer in Civil Lines in Kanpur.

According to RSS sources, at present, over 900 'Kutumb Shakhas' are being held in Lucknow, 1,100 in Prayagraj and 800 in Kanpur and the number is growing by the day.
