Sonia forms 11-member panel with Manmohan Singh, Rahul as members

New Delhi, Apr 18 (IANS): Amid the nationwide lockdown to combat Covid-19, Congress interim chief Sonia Gandhi has formed an 11-member consultative group, including former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram and former party chief Rahul Gandhi, to formulate the party views on various issues.

In a statement, Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal said, "Sonia Gandhi has constituted a consultative group consisting of Manmohan Singh, Rahul Gandhi, P. Chidambaram, K.C. Venugopal, Manish Tewari, Jairam Ramesh, Randeep Singh Surjewala, Praveen Chakravarty, Gaurav Vallabh, Supriya Shrinate and Rohan Gupta."

Venugopal said the the consultative group will have virtual meetings, normally everyday, to deliberate on matters of concern and formulate the views of the party.

The Congress, during the 40-day lockdown has suggested several measures to the government to fight the spread of Covid-19 pandemic in the country.

On Thursday, Rahul Gandhi in his press conference said political parties need to work together to fight the pandemic.

On Saturday, the total number of Covid-19 cases in India rose to 14,378 with 480 people losing their lives to the pandemic across the country.

    Good to see congress is taking the responsibilities and acting like the govt. As a matter of fact the govt should have taken these initiatives and worked to eleviate needy ones challenges and rescue them. After all what is the worth of big talks with big promises but finally ask people to help?!!?!?!?!?....

    No changes. MMS himself is a virtual leader, The leader that does not exist. This is the same group that was rejected nationwide not too long ago that had eventually Pappu running to Wayanad Kerala to contest and win ONLY on muslim votes.

    Dare to fight elections without EVMs instead of stealing power from back door????. No restrictions on anyone contesting elections anywhere in India. Why Modi contested in Varanasi apart from his Gujarat constituency??? Is it for Hindu majority votes????.... BTW, people of Kerala are Indians too so no communal mindset.     Have you checked BA fail MA pass certificates and no known class mates, faculty and name entry in university registers????. How valid is Smrti Irani's foriegn university degree certificate????.. List is endless............but equal number of clean chits at all times.
