Army gives monetary support to kin of civilians killed in Pak shelling


Srinagar, Apr 18 (IANS): The Indian Army on Saturday provided monetary support to families of victims killed in Pakistan shelling on the Line of Control (LoC) in J&K's Kupwara district.

Defence sources said the monetary support to families of those civilians killed in Pakistan shelling in Kupwara district earlier this week was ordered by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General M.M. Naravane who visited the formations on the LoC yesterday in Kupwara district.

A child, a woman and a man were killed in the shelling incident after Pakistan resorted to unprovoked, indiscriminate shelling at civil and defence facilities in Chowkibal sector.

The relief of Rs 1 lakh each was distributed today among the next of kin of the three victims.

Commanding officer of 14 Sikh Light Infantry handed over the relief to the family members, sources said.
