Andhra reports 2 more deaths, toll mounts to 16


Amaravati, Apr 18 (IANS): Two more people died of coronavirus in Andhra Pradesh while 31 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours, officials said on Saturday.

A death each was reported from Krishna and Kurnool districts, taking the death toll in the state to 16. According to a revised medical bulletin released by the health department, 31 more people have tested positive, taking the state's tally to 603.

Of the 31 new cases, 18 were reported from Krishna district and 5 from Kurnool district.

A total of 42 patients have so far recovered and have been discharged from the hospitals. With this, the number of active cases stood at 545. Earlier, this number was put at 546.

The state has imported one lakh rapid testing kits from Korea for community wide screening. Officials said a door-to-door survey will be carried out and tests will be conducted on the doorsteps for those with suspected symptoms and those living in red zones.
