Sullia, Apr 20: The people have already feeling harassed by the onslaught of coronavirus pandemic. Dengue, which often raises its ugly head during the early months of the monsoon, has regularly been harassing the people of the coast. A number of people in the area have a fever but the health department does not accept it to be dengue fever.

There are reports that during the last one week, over ten cases of fever were reported from the taluk but the health department says it is not dengue. For a fever to be classified as dengue, lab report from the district hospital has to arrive. The department does not consider reports based on a kit report in private hospitals. Taluk health officer, Dr Subrahmanya, said that a fever can be classified as dengue only after blood tests in laboratories or district hospitals diagnose it. He said no such report has come so far, and that dengue has not been confirmed in case of people who suffered from fever. He said that those who had signs of fever are now on way to recovery. The people feel that they can get a diagnosis done faster if the laboratories are opened even in taluk hospitals.

Kasargod: 20 persons from Kallar, Panathadi gram panchayats have been admitted into different hospitals for dengue treatment. The health department said that it has been taking steps against the disease. Two dengue cases have also come to the fore from Neriya and Kadirudyavara in Beltangady taluk. Taluk health officer said two persons who suffered from dengue have been discharged while two more have been admitted into private hospitals.
