UAE-based Indian expat gets engaged amid COVID-19 lockdown

Dubai, Apr 21 (IANS): Despite the ongoing lockdown in the United Arab Emirates due to the coronavirus pandemic, an Indian expat got engaged to his long-time girlfriend, a media report said.

Indian expat Ejaz Bangara proposed to his long-term girlfriend Sahar Atmar on April 18 at his residence in Dubai, said the Gulf News report.

"I was to propose to her last month, but following the stay-at-home measures, my plans were shelved," he said.

Three days before Sahar was to travel on a special repatriation flight to Melbourne, Australia where her parents live, Ejaz popped the question.

He said although there was no big celebration to mark the occasion, the couple's friends and family wished them via the Zoom video app.

"The whole world has been negatively impacted by coronavirus. I wanted to bring positivity in our lives," Ejaz added.
