Railways providing 10k litre water everyday to Delhi Police


New Delhi, Apr 21 (IANS): The Indian Railways, which is providing meals to the needy across the country, has also started providing 10,000 litre free water to the Delhi Police personnel deployed to combat the spread of novel coronavirus (Covid-19).

A railway ministry spokesperson in a statement said that its various wings like the IRCTC, RPF, zonal railways and others have worked tirelessly to keep alive the national transporter's commitment of fighting against coronavirus in an integrated manner.

"Recently, railways has started to provide 10,000 water bottles per day to the Delhi Police personnel who have been out on the streets on the war against Covid-19," he said.

He further said till now 50,000 water bottles have been distributed.

The official said that police men were braving hot summers and trying conditions on ground and they have worked round the clock to not only ensure that lockdown is implemented as required but also accompany the doctors and paramedics in various locations in challenging circumstances.

The official said that it was the railways' way to honour the Covid-19 warriors.

The official said that the water bottles are being provided by the catering arm of railways, Indian Rail Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), and it has distributed 10,000 Rail Neer water bottles per day since April 16 from its Nangloi plant.

As of Monday, the national transporter has provided cooked meals to over 20 lakh people at 300 locations across the country.
