Youth Congress sends legal notice to BJP leaders alleging fake tweet

New Delhi, Apr 21 (IANS): Youth Congress President B.V. Srinivas on Tuesday sent a legal notice to BJP leaders Sambit Patra and Amit Malviya for making malicious, biased and inaccurate statements.

A statement issued by Srinivas said, "It is pertinent to mention that today at 10:45 a.m., Dr Sambit Patra put out a tweet on the microblogging site Twitter, thereby levelling imaginary allegations of illegal liquor being smuggled in the car of IYC President, which has been given permission for essential services. The same tweet was similar to a tweet that was put out by Shri Amit Malviya of the BJP at 10:30 a.m."

The car mentioned in the said tweets and the subsequent news items does not belong to the IYC President and the idea behind the said tweets was to malign the image of B.V. Srinivas and to somehow halt the social work being conducted by the IYC across the nation, said the statement.

The Youth Congress condemned the act of BJP spokesperson Patra and national IT Cell head Malviya and said the act of cowardice and lies show the malicious intention of the BJP.

It has also sent a notice under Section 499 of the Indian Penal Code, and called upon the aforementioned persons to issue a public apology, failing which they shall be taken to appropriate forum of law and tried for defaming the IYC President, the statement said.
