Bhubaneswar, Apr 21 (IANS): A recovered coronavirus patient from West Bengal, who was admitted at a Covid-19 hospital here, died on Tuesday morning, health officials said.
The government said he had recovered from novel coronavirus and the cause of his death was cancer.
The patient, a resident of Medinapur of West Bengal, died due to hypopituitarism with septic shock and multi-organ failure.
The deceased was 44th positive patient of Odisha.
Odisha government's COVID-19 spokesperson, Subroto Bagchi, said the man from West Bengal had recovered from the coronavirus and he died of cancer.
"The patient was a resident of West Bengal and had previously been operated at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar for pituitary tumour. Recently, he had come for follow up treatment to the same hospital, where he was detected as Covid positive," the state nformation and Public Relation Department said.
"After treatment, he was found negative for Covid-19 in 2 repeat tests. Although he had recovered from Covid, he could not be discharged due to his pre-existing other medical complaints. He passed away this morning due to hypopituirism with septic shock & multi-organ failure," said the department.
Meanwhile, the Health department said that five more people have recovered from the disease - one each in Bhubaneswar, Dhenkanal, Kalahandi, Sundargarh and Kendrapada.
With this, the total number of people who have recovered stands at 29. Odisha has reported 79 Covid-19 positive cases so far.
