Five-foot-tall Candle for Christmas

Lucknow, Dec 24 (IANS) A five-foot-tall candle, weighing nearly 10 kg, prepared by an Uttar Pradesh resident, will definitely light up the festive celebrations for Christmas.

Naveen Kumar of Badaun district, some 250 km from Lucknow, has come up with a unique wax candle prepared exclusively for celebrating Christmas.

"People not only from my locality, but also from other areas of the district are thronging my home in the civil lines locality to see the unique candle I have prepared for the festival," Kumar told reporters Thursday in Badaun.

Kumar, who is a Hindu, prepared the special multi-coloured candle as a gift for some of his Christian friends.

"I just wanted to contribute something that would make their celebrations special and then decided to prepare a unique candle to make the celebrations memorable," said Kumar, who owns a candle-making unit in Badaun.

The height and weight are not the only attractions of the candle as a figure of Jesus is also embossed on the candle. Unlike other candles, its wax will not melt when it is lit.

"The specially-designed candle has a low power bulb atop, that illuminates through electricity. Just by pressing the button attached to the candle one can switch the bulb on or off," said Kumar, who has been felicitated on several occasions in the past by the district authorities for coming up with attractive candles.

Kumar said he had spent nearly Rs.1,500 on the preparation of the candle.
