Raj HC adjourns bail plea as lawyer appears in 'baniyan' during VC

Jaipur, Apr 25 (IANS): The Rajasthan High Court had to adjourn the scheduled hearing in a bail plea on Friday as the petitioner's counsel was seen dressed in a vest while attending the hearing on video conferencing.

Earlier this month too, Justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma witnessed a similar scene and had instructed the High Court Bar Association to direct all advocates for appearing in proper uniform while attending video conferencing.

In his order issued on April 24, Justice Sharma, after seeing an advocate attending a video conferencing in 'baniyaan', adjourned the proceedings till May 5.

Justice Sharma in his order said that the learned counsel was contacted through video conferencing when he was found wearing 'baniyan'.

"This court has already observed that during this pendamic, where our functioning is being done through video-conferencing, lawyers must appear in proper uniform.

Even on video conferencing, the decorum of the court is required to be maintained.

The Advocates Act provides for lawyers to wear uniform while pleading cases for their clients. Keeping in view that the petitioner's counsel was not in proper uniform, this matter is adjourned. List this case again on May 5, 2020," he had said in his order.
