Udupi: Energy Minister Eshwarappa Initiates Navaratna Ratha Shobhayatra

Udupi, Dec 25: The people of the town welcomed with all splendour the Navaratna Ratha, gem studded chariot all set to be dedicated to Sri Krishna Mutt deity Lord Krishna by the Paryaya Puthige Mutt Seer Shree Sugunendratheertha Swamiji on Thursday December 24.



The procession that began from Jodukatte passed through K M Marg, Kanakadas Marg and reached Car Street. Various cultural troupes with main attraction being Tibetan dance groups added glory to the procession. The chariot, first of its kind costs approximately Rs 7 crore.

State energy minister K S Eshwarappa initiated the ‘Shobhayathra’. Paryaya seer Sugunendrateertha Swamiji, Bheemanakatte Mutt Raghumanyateertha Swamiji, Raghuvarendrateertha Swamiji and Kaniyoor Mutt Seer Vidyavallabhateertha Swamiji were present on the occasion.

Dharmastala dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade presided over the programme. Special invitees, President of managing trust of Tirupathy temple, Adikeshavulu Nayudu, Raja S Rajagopalacharya of Mantralaya Mutt and Bheemeshwara Joshi of Horanadu Annapoorneshwari Temple among others were present.

    God does not  require golden chariots & diamond crowns. This is dead investment. Instead of this spend those funds on school & hospitals. We have living examples like Dr. Veerendra Heggade & Adichunchanagiri Swamiji. Hope Udupi Swamy's will learn some lessons from them.

    Beautiful pictures[daiji] all looks so nice i think lord krishna would have liked to see more needy people been helped by the sponsors of this Ratha. we sould all remember that at this devoloping stage of our country there are so many in need of proper shelter, food, education, etc etc so why not indulge in helping activities.
