Abu Dhabi: First lecture by Majlis Mohamed Bin Zayed

Abu Dhabi, Apr 30: Majlis Mohamed Bin Zayed launched its Ramadan lecture series in a newly reimagined virtual version on Wednesday April 29 on the Al Emarat TV Channel. Dr Omar Habtoor Al Darei, executive director of Islamic Affairs at the General Authority of Islamic Affairs and endowments led the first lecture. This was followed by a live discussion with His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and other esteemed participants.

Majlis Mohamed bin Zayed is a forum that features eminent leaders, scientists, thinkers and scholars who engage in dialogue and debate to create a better understanding of the several issues that impact society and human life. This year, the Majlis began a new format, a series that airs weekly during Ramadan and invites the entire community to participate and engage virtually on the topics discussed.

The series’ first episode was named ‘Our Values, Our Path Forward’ and spoke about the rejuvenating and enduring power of Ramadan during such times. In his lecture, Dr Omar Al Darei referenced lessons from the pandemics in the past and spoke of the legacies of our forefathers who had conquered those difficult times with values of optimism and future-building. He also spoke about stories in the Quran and Islamic history that emphasized the power of optimism and future-building; the Islamic scholarships on epidemics and the important of perseverance and the need to cultivate it during times of pandemics. He cited works of various scholars and doctors.

The discussion led to an interesting discussion between His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, joined by HH Sheikh Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi’s Ruler Representative in Al Ain Region, Sheikh Nahyan Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance, Dr Mohammed Matar Al Kaabi, Chairman of the General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments, Hamad SuhailOwaida Al Khaili, and Dr Hamdan Musallam Al Mazrouei, Adviser to the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince's Court.

Following the discussion, several questions and reflections were brought up by the guests on mainly the topic of importance of national collective values in overcoming the current challenges. Initiatives and projects by the UAE to build a stronger foundation for the country in such a time was also touched upon.

The session ended with His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed who stressed on the importance of being patient during such a time. His Highness said that the crisis will pass, but needs patience and that the country is proud of the citizens and residents alike, for working towards its well-being.

The show wrapped up with a tribute for the unsung heroes from all over the country, and also included testimonials from delivery drivers, health workers, pilots, executives and supermarket workers who expressed their pride and honour to be working for the nation during this hard time.
