97% active corona cases asymptomatic in Karnataka: Dr K Sudhakar

Bengaluru, Jun 11 (IANS): As many as 97 per cent active COVID-19 cases in Karnataka are asymptomatic but there is no evidence that they do not spread the infection, said Medical Education minister Dr K Sudhakar on Thursday.

"It is pleasant news that more than 97 per cent of the active cases are symptomatic. However, there is no conclusive evidence that asymptomatic patients don't transmit infection," Sudhakar said while talking about the COVID-19 situation in the state till Tuesday.

Active cases until Tuesday were 3,248, out of which 3,148 are asymptomatic, constituting 97 per cent, while only 100 or three per cent were symptomatic.

Total cases in the state till Tuesday were 5,921.

"No conclusive evidence that asymptomatic patients don't transmit infection nor is there any way to differentiate pre-symptomatic and asymptomatic ones," he said.

Including both active and recovered cases, Sudhakar said only 414 or seven per cent were symptomatic and 5,507 or 93 per cent were asymptomatic out of the total 5,921 cases.

After two days, Karnataka corona cases breached the 6,000 mark to settle at 6,041.

On what basis or study he is saying that? I would agree if he says 97% will survive from the disease but to say that 97% are asymptomatic is far fetched! Many will have minor complaints like sore throat and mild fever like in a common cold but no other country or experts have said that 97% are asymptomatic!

    1. Covid-19 is really very mysterious decease infecting almost everyone who come in contact with the infected person.
    2. Yet, strangely so many infected remain asymptomatic, but being told that they are capable of infecting others.
    3. Among the infected, some become very serious and die within a very short span of time while some remain asymptomatic and survive that's the good news but problem is they infect others who are healthy.
    4. No one is capable of forming a firm opinion, whether Covid -19 is fatal or mild for it affects differently.
