Kundapur, Jun 22: Padukone unit of DYFI has become a role model for the younger generation by converting barren land into fertile soil field. Their intention is to attract more youngsters towards agriculture.

Due to the team effort of DYFI, last year crop was harvested in barren land. This year too, the team made the effort to get more harvest in the same manner. In most parts of the taluk, people were sitting inside the house, owing to the solar eclipse on Sunday, June 21. However, in Padukone there was festive mood of planting the saplings. More than 50 women took part in the planting of saplings, while the DYFI members worked as coordinators in the process.

The soil of land that is suited for harvesting paddy crop was tested scientifically for its fertility after getting permission from the owner of the land. Later, required items were used to enrich the soil and saplings were planted. Both scientific and traditional methods were used for the planting of saplings.

Agriculture of paddy is depleting year by year. Due to the shortage of labourers, the paddy fields of coastal districts, which were once considered as the bowls of rice, have fallen barren. The main reason for this is that the younger generation is not interested in agriculture.

DYFI Padukone unit always does some work that inspires the younger generation. On the morning of Sunday, a huge crowd of people gathered in the paddy field behind the Maraswamy temple at Padukone. Tillers were tilling the field while the women were planting the saplings.

Members of DYFI are busy in their own fields during the week. But all of them enjoyed the slime of mud of the paddy field on their weekend.

The story of DYFI friends Padukone unit does not end here. Any amount of inventions in science, technology and higher education will not be useful if agriculture does not move forward. DYFI has sent the message ‘Let us love agriculture and make the soil of paddy field fertile’ through their work.

Rajiv Padukone, president of Padukone Agriculture service cooperative society, Rajesh Padukone, member of Nada gram panchayat, Nagaraja Kuru, president of DYFI Padukone unit, Kiran Padukone, secretary, office bearers and members of DYFI Padukone unit were present on the occasion.

"Our aim is to encourage young generation towards agriculture. Working towards this, we have taken the decision and tried similar effort last year. We made the barren land fertile by taking the permission of the land owners and did the crop harvesting. This year also we have continued the same. All the members of DYFI Padukone unit have participated in this effort," said Nagaraja Kuru, president, DYFI Padukone unit.
