Udupi, Feb 26: The political leaders without any party affiliation held a protest at Major circle here on Wednesday February 24, demanding stern action against tipper lorry driver whose reckless driving killed Sambrina (15), a student of St Mary’s School on Tuesday February 23.

The protestors alleged that Majoor-Kankanady-Padoor road is busy and congested with vehicular traffic. Especially the drivers of the tipper lorries do not exercise caution though the road comes under rural limit and drive recklessly, thus endangering lives. They demanded Kaup circle inspector Cheluvaraju to take stern action against such drivers.

Former MLA Vasant V Salian, Udupi zilla panchayat president Gladys Almeida and JD (S) district president Devi Prasad Shetty among others were part of the protest. A programme to pay tribute to the deceased girl was also held.

Killer Driver Arrested – Awarded Judicial Custody

Meanwhile, Shirva police arrested the tipper lorry driver Sudhir Shetty (26) of Nandalike, whose negligent driving killed Sambrina, on Wednesday. Shetty was produced before the court here and has been awarded judicial custody up to March 9.

26 year old Driving heavy vehicle like tipper & Bus should be verified. Heavy Vehicles License should be on basis of Maturity and more than 10 years driving experience. Our police officers are sold out by Owners, License is purchased with cash and not training or test, our officers are busy earning. These vehicle owners should also be punished along with the Drivers and police officer who passed these driver's license. What do they mean by judicial custody why not punishment on spot.. what do these people want to verify.. this is disgusting and as usual he will go free with some months of jail.
may Sabrina's soul rest in peace, may god give her family the strength to overcome this disaster..
