Puttur: Student Dies as School Building Collapses

Puttur, Mar 5: A student of standard IX of Vidyapura Government Pre-university College died on the spot after a lintel of an under-construction Akshara Dasoha building in the college premises collapsed on Thursday March 4. 
 
The deceased has been identified as Shah Rukh Khan (14), son of Abdul Khader and resident of Alakemajalu in Bantwal taluk. The student, along with two classmates, who had been out of the classroom to have drinking water accidentally touched the lintel resulting in its collapse. Poor quality of the construction works is said to be the reason for the tragedy.

The incident triggered tension in the surroundings for sometime with the public gathering at the spot demanding that arrest of the contractor and the engineer, immediately.

Puttur town sub-inspector Srikanth, taluk panchayat education officer Y Shivaramaiah, tahsildar Dase Gowda and block education officer among others visited the spot and tried to pacify agitators.

    What a tragedy!May Allah give them enough strength to bear this loss.Sad to know such thing happened in an highschool where I studied. The whole incident must be probed and the guilty must be punished.
