Mangalore: Tipper-Car Accident Causes Traffic Block on Ullal Bridge

Mangalore, Mar 16: Two persons were injured in an accident between a tipper lorry and a car, on the bridge over the Netravathi River near Ullal, on Tuesday March 16.

However, miraculously, both vehicles stayed on the bridge after the collision. 

The accident happened due to the negligence of the driver of the tipper lorry carrying sand. The lorry collided with a car traveling towards the city from Kasargod. Two passengers of the car were admitted to hospital with minor injuries.
























Eyewitnesses said that the lorry driver was trying to overtake another lorry on the bridge, and he did not notice the car which was also speeding. They added that the car driver was unable to avoid the collision as there was no room for him to swerve. 

People in the vicinity said it was lucky that the vehicles were not pushed off the bridge due to the impact.

The accident caused a traffic block on the bridge for hours. The sand in the tipper fell on the road and the path had to be cleared by removing the sand which took about one hour.

Ullal police registered a case in this regard.

    Thank God that everybody was safe
    after a critical accident. The
    truck driver who tried to overtake
    another truck in a bridge needs to
    learn some lessons of driving.
    Put him in jail for a few days,
    and send him to school to learn
    traffic laws. He played a very
    dangerous and reckless game with
    human lives.

    RTO should annually check overall fitness of public carrier vehicles like Buses & Lorries as well as the drivers. All out dated lorries & buses whose shelf life have expired should be banned.

    True ther was no loss of life..Thank god.. Between we cant blame government for each and everything for negligence of drivers. One thing Government could do is put speed breaker boards on the bridge or speed limit boards. so that every 1 maintain the same speed.

    Thank god there were no loss of life !!! Two things to be noticed over here,one is that there is no sight of the police near the accident spot & 2ndly, civilians are taking initiative to clear the road for other.Accident are very common on & near this bridge.The RTA has to come up with some solutions soon to prevent accidents on this bridge.

    Thank goodness, no major disaster and loss of life - it could have been worse! One should be very careful when overtaking, specially on a bridge, for, it is very difficult to judge how fast the vehicle coming from the opposite end is travelling. In this particular case, the car driver was also equally at fault since he was apprently speeding as well. By the way, nice photographs, Dayanand Kukkaje!.
