Mangalore: Supari Killers Hired by Chota Shakeel to Eliminate Poojary Gang Held

Mangalore, Mar 17: The District Intelligence Crime Bureau (DCIB) police team has arrested 11 alleged associates of the underworld don, Chota Shakeel, by foiling their plan to kill four associates of another underworld don, Ravi Poojary. The policemen stumbled upon the plans of the gang, while investigating a case of assault that had occurred within Beltangady police station limits.
 
Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday March 17, inspector general of police, Gopal B Hosur, said that the DCIB police team had arrested the associates of Chota Shakeel, on the basis of the information the team had collected, when it was in search of Manjunath, a resident of Chikmagalur, in relation to the case of assault on Moosa Kunhi, a resident of Maddadka in Beltangady.

 
The case had been registered in Beltangady police station in September 2009, and the job of investigating the case was assigned to DCIB, as the key accused had been absconding for long, he added, divulging that the team collected information that the accused was living in a house at Dambel near Ashok Nagar in the city.
 
“The team found that seven other persons were living with Manjunath in the said house, and also that some deadly weapons had been stored there,” he added. The seven residents of the house were Manjunath alias Manju(22), a resident of Chikmagalur, Sushil Kumar alias Monu(24),  resident of Ashok nagar in the city, Latish Nayak alias Latse (21), resident of Kudroli, Aswin Anchan(25), resident of Kudroli, Suresh Alban D’Souza (38), residing near Kottara Cross, Lohith Gatti(21), resident of Bhavanthi steet,  Praveen (30), resident of Urwa store and Sushanchandra (22), a resident of Capitanio, he informed.
 
“During the course of interrogating the seven  accused, the police gathered that they were plotting to kill four aides of Ravi poojary within the next fifteen days and after executing the plan, they wanted to settle down in a rented house near Chadra Katte in Chikmagalur. They also revealed that sharp shooters, who had arrived from Mumbai, were already stationed in a house,” informed Dr A S Rao, district superintendent of police.
 
The sharp shooters stated herein are Ganesh Shivarama shetty (35), resident of Mumbai, Rakesh Mishra, resident of Uttar Pradesh, and Manju alias Manjunatha (21) resident of Chikmagalur, who were arrested along with the weapons in their possession, he added. Among these sharp shooters, Ganesh Shivarama Shetty has already been involved with several other crimes including murder of Mahendra Pratap Singh, in which case he was convicted and awarded life sentence.
 
Harish shetty, another accused, who also is allegedly involvement with  this case, is yet to be arrested. He is absconding,  Dr A S Rao added, saying  that Chota Shakeel being the prime accused in this case, also needs to be arrested.
 
For the execution of this plan, Chota Shakeel had remitted a sum of two lac rupees to the team, and this team had collected the amount through Western Union Bank money transfer system by showing their identity cards, he said. Along with a revolver and three bullets, five hatchets, a car and five mobile phones, a sum of Rs 63,000 in cash, also have been seized from them, he added.
 
DCIB inspector, Venkatesh Prasanna, ASI, Narayana Maniyani, and other members of the DCiB team, Shashidhar Shetty, Chetan Botyadi, Ganesh Manya, Chandra Adoor, Dinesh Bekal, Santosh Padeel, Kumar B, Dharmendra, Prashanth Shetty, Ganesh Kalladka, Ritehsh Kottary, Sudhakar, apart from drivers Shantha Shetty and Devayya were presented with cash rewards by the IGP at the press meet.
 
Additional superintendent of police, R Ramesh, was also present.
