Puttur: Udayagiri-Berike road remains as dirty, slushy as ever

Daijiworld Media Network - Puttur (SP)

Puttur, Aug 19: A road in Aryapu village which connects over 50 houses has become so slushy that let alone vehicles, it has turned into a nightmare even for the pedestrians. For so many years, people from this area have been requesting the legislator and other people's representatives from the area apart from the officials relating to the repair of the road, but this demand has been neglected.

The Udayagiri-Berike road that passes through Aryapu is in a wretched state, to say the least. The road passes through Goddess Annapoorneshwari temple at Sampya towards Berike. The road appears to have turned into a fountain of slush. Because of rainwater, the road looks more like a dirty canal with potholes and pits in between.

The road does not have storm drains to allow the flow of rainwater. The rainwater which flows down the hillock directly flows in the middle of this road. In some places, the slush accumulation is so thick that legs get buried till the knees. For children and aged people, this road poses a lot of challenges.

But the people of the area have no alternative but to use this road. People who walk through the road and two-wheeler riders get sprinkled with liberal quantities of slushy water. Auto rickshaws are not agreeable to move on this road because of the bad condition of the road. People who fall ill have to be carried on shoulders.

Concreting of this road appears to be the only viable solution to the problem. Till then, the people have urged the concerned to level the damaged parts of the road with crushed stones and sand, besides allowing the water to drain away by creating a drainage system on a temporary basis.

A local, Sayanand Shetty Karimogaru, said that since 2014, so many petitions were given to legislators, officials etc but there has not been any favourable response. Puttur MLA Sanjeev Matandoor said that many roads and other development works are pending because of the coronavirus problem. He said that the Udayagiri-Berike road development is among the projects he has already listed out and that this road will be concreted soon.

This is a water crossing, the pvt property owners on both sides of the road must make proper arrangements not to allow water coming into this road. Another section of the road looks good.
