Kasargod, Aug 19: A closer study of customs and religious observations of Tulunadu reveals that most of them are linked to nature and belief systems based on science. When such customs are given a touch of modernity, then new concepts which serve several purposes, get unfolded.

One such concept was brought into practice by Tirumaleshwar Bhat of Bayar Hiranya. Bayar Hiranyapadav is known since long for unique jackfruit specifies where the inside of the jackfruits is red in colour. The saplings of this variety of jackfruits were given in a temple in the form of Prasadam and this concept has won over several hearts and come in for appreciation.

This was practised at Goddess Durgaparameshwari temple at Bayar Hiranya. On Sunday, August 16, a special puja in connection with Sankramana day of Shravana month was organized. In the form of Prasadam on that occasion, the red variety of jackfruit saplings were distributed.

The farm of Pavitra Chakrapani Hiranya Tirumaleshwar Bhat belonging to Bayar Kambala lineage who manage the said temple has several species of jackfruits. Among them, this time, the red variety had yielded a lot of jackfruits. The priest, who had read reports about jackfruit turning into staple food during the lockdown period, was inspired to give away saplings of the tree to the devotees.

As many as 100 seeds were planted and 20 saplings were given to devotees on Sankramana day. Because of the coronavirus pandemic, many devotees could not visit the temple. Tirumaleshwar Bhat has arranged to deliver the saplings to the houses of the remaining devotees.
