Bengaluru: Government invokes UAPA against 61 accused in DJ Halli violence

Bengaluru, Aug 20: Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) was invoked by the Karnataka government against 61 people involved in the Bengaluru violence which left three people dead in police firing resorted to pacify the violent clash that resulted due to a social media post.

Kamal Pant, Bangalore City police commissioner said that investigations are being carried out purely based on facts and evidence. "Evidence-based arrests are still going on. Wherever the accused are, we will find them," the commissioner said.

On Monday August 17, the state government stated that it had decided to invoke the UAPA law which is stringent along with the Goonda Act in the case of the violence that took place.

The clash claimed three lives injuring 60 police personnel including damage of properties. Several private and police vehicles were burnt in Bengaluru in the incident.

The government has also decided to seek from the high court to appoint a claim commissioner for the assessment and recovery of the damages the mob caused in the DJ Halli area violence that took place last week.

    It will Be nice if UAPA and Goonda Act could be applied with retrospective effect to all the holigans involved in the Church attacks at Mangalore in 2008 and for their merciless attacks on Priests, Nuns, Congregations and desecration of Christian Holy Places.

    I am ashamed that our Christian leaders who were in government could not give us justice, they did not even try do anything, from this you should understand for congress and our other so called secular parties minority's mean only muslims, stop blindly following these politicians they cannot deliver justice to you.

    Do you condemn this heinous and evil very act on Christians if you are really a Christian????.....
    You being a Christian why are you finding fault again with Christian leaders who too are victims of this incident.
    FYI, they have done a lot to the community in spite of being targeted and hurdles in thier effort.
    Justice may or may not be served depending on who is running the govt. and who are the master conspirators behind it. Even there are Muslim leaders in govt but that doesn't stop any riots specially in UP.

    Dude come out of the well and learn something I condemed the church attacks then and the government failure to protect the real minorities then and now also, don't compare me with you, unlike you I do not follow any political party, what I said was I do not have faith in our Christian leaders who came out vocally when they were in opposition but could not give justice to us, when they were in government.

    Sir, your commentary on the self annointed, few leaders, in the seat of power, are sad but very true. They have done an immense disservice to the community, they are mere jesters, in the courthouse of power.. just relishing its fruits !!! Minorities means just one community, wooing them for their votes is essential to retain power !!!!

    destruction of life and property.... We are given liberty to protest, within the gambits of law !!! We have a free press, judiciary.. Zoroastrian, Jains, Buddhists, Sikhs, Bahais, Christians, Jews, Atheists, do not go berserk, intimidating and creating lawlessness in our society !!!!

    Why are you evading about church attacks and subsequent injustice???????.....
    As I said here once the investigation is completed and the report is in court, court will proceed legally and decide who is involved from start to end. Ordinary hooligans can not afford riots without a strong hand of politics and money behind it.

    This is grossly unfair !!! Were they not more then 4000 radicalized mobsters, who besmirched the image of our IT capital of India ??? Did they not create the dance of death and destruction on the streets, terrorising the citizens of Bangaluru ??? Then why the state has invoked UAPA on only 61 rabid lawbreakers ???? Every paise have to be recovered from these rioters, further stringent punishment must be delivered to these brutes, under various sections of IPC !!!

    Do you endorse same sentiments and vouch justice for cold blooded church attacks and on innocent priests, nuns, and the whole congregation and vandalizing and desecration of Christians holy places and relics????????...... Be fair to your faith and call for same sentence for injustice and damages for Christian community. Here the case is still under investigation. Court hasn't ruled out legally who and which organization is involved in this incident. Don't give your bombastic discourse of verdict before the court does. A person is innocent until proven guilty.
