Mangalore: Direct Flight from City to New Delhi Likely from March 28

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Mar 22: If everything goes on as planned, a long-time dream of the people from the region, who fly to the national capital frequently, will come true on March 28. On the day, Air India is scheduled to operate its first direct flight from the city to New Delhi.

The flight, which will touch down at the local airport from Kozhikode, will fly non-stop to New Delhi. This flight is scheduled to take about four hours and fifteen minutes. On its return journey, it will touch the city airport before continuing its journey to Kozhikode, said Air India sources.

Union minister for civil aviation, Praful Patel, had recently announced in the parliament the department’s intention to operate more direct flights to the national capital from additional sectors.

It is learnt that initially, three flights per week will be operated on the route. In course of time, Air India plans to begin daily flights. New flights will also be operated to New Delhi from Coimbatore, Amritsar and Dehradun too, it is learnt.

As of now, the city is connected by daily direct flights to Bangalore, Mumbai, Goa and Kozhikode. New Delhi will be the new destination of a direct flight. As of now, 40 national and international flights operate from the airport here.

What a wonderful news | we are longing for the direct flight since so long time. At last, govt heard about our inner sense. Earlier We could reach Mangalore either via Mumbai or Bangalore. This is the welcome step. This will certainlhy facilitate us to visit our home town without much time. Hats off to Mr. Patel.

To tap the huge potential of the tourist revenue in this region, the Govt should come up with few air-strips & helipads along the coastal region along with world standard resorts by public-private partnership companies. This will boost the locals as well as the small businessmen from other region to start eateries & other establishments around those tourist centers.

Good news..., but with mixed feeling! Operated only by Air India is not a good sign as we will have to suffer a lot with the kind of service they provide. Hope the authorities allow private Airlines to operate this sector as well as International Sectors. I enjoyed flying Kingfisher recently and their service is really good...! Live life king size!
Yes Daiji, pls put some light on the opening of the new terminal in Mangalore!

Agreed with Raghuveer, it’s a complete monopoly by Air India Express (AIE). AIE knows Mangalore hub is very lucrative and that’s the reason they restrict other airline.

I just did a return fare check between Dubai and Mangalore 9th April 2010 and 17th April2010. The return fare on AIE was around 1750AED while with Kingfisher it was 1300 AED. Though the operating cost will be more for Kingfisher considering the travel distance ( being via Bangalore) , they are much lower than AIE, while we get a 5 star service on Kingfisher , it’s a 3rd class service received on AIE in spite of paying more.

After all this exorbitant rates and 3rd class service, as a citizen of India, my tax money is being pumped into this loss making carrier.

Its very funny to see Mangaloreans are very much happy always with the left out food!! When they started the cananore-Bangalore train poor mangaloreans thought its for them , you guys should know if there was another route to operate this train wouldnt have evn touched mangalore. Now the flight, its rather a flight from calicut to Delhi and if any mangis ready to fly will collect you from mangalore dont worry be happy. I even heard flight from Dubai to calicut Via Mangalore operates and the charges for dubai to calicut on week ends are like maximum 150 USD and for the same flight if you buy ticket for Dubai-Mangalore they charge you 350 USD. Strange but still poor mangaloreans are happy by paying a huge amount for the left out food!! Its only similar news portals which going to work hard to get the new mangalore airport get opened to public!!

Service of Air India or Air India express is very bad. They charge more but give no service or their staff is very rude. We would be very happy if King Fisher or Jet Airways start their flight to Delhi from Mangalore other wise we have to opt flights from Bangalore to Delhi instead of travelling in Air India. Let public come forward and submit their grievences before the authorities to stop the bad services of air India or for alternative servivces like Kingfisher or Jet.

There could have been bit of hope if our ex airport director Vasudev would have been there in Mangalore airport. All the developments have been hampered since AAI have transferred our self dedicated director Mr. Vasudev and replaced by some mallu or else AAI is playing a game by allowing only Air India Express to fly to various destinations in Middle East. If they inaugurate the new terminal it's almost certain that private airlines would jump into operations and break the monopoly which is dominated by Air India.
