Byndoor, Aug 21: Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary visited the residences of four fishermen Lakshman Kharvi, Manjunath Kharvi, Naga Kharvi and Shekhar Kharvi who had passed away in a boat tragedy at Koderi, near Uppunda on August 16. Kota on Friday handed over to their families letters of compensation worth Rs 6 lac each as compensation by the state government.

"We could not rescue the fishermen who went missing in the boat tragedy. Therefore, the local MP, MLAs and I spoke to the chief minister and urged him to release the compensation. The chief minister announced a compensation of Rs 6 lac each. We will also try to obtain compensation from the centre. The need for houses and other needs will be stressed. We are with the families of the deceased. The government will respond to them," Kota said.

“The demands of fishermen such as breakwater and removal of sludge will be completed soon. Many works are in progress in Byndoor,” he added.

MLA B M Sukumar Shetty, Byndoor taluk panchayat president Mahendra Poojary, vice president Malini K, Byndoor Mandala BJP president Deepak Kumar Shetty, fishermen leader Madan Kumar, taluk panchayat member Karan Poojary and other leaders were present.
