Dubai, Mar 25: The singing competition announced by Mangalore Konkans, scheduled to be held on Friday April 30, has received a tremendous response in almost all the categories especially the ‘Gulf Voice of Mangalore’ section which has already seen over a hundred entries in both the male and female sections.

The closing date for receiving entries for solo singing (both male and female for qualifying Gulf Voice of Mangalore semifinals) originally scheduled for Sunday April 18 is now preponed by two weeks due to overwhelming response received and scheduled for Friday April 2. This is applicable only for male and female solo singing contest, however for all other categories, closing date will remain April 18, 2010.

Valerian Peris, convenor of the singing contest informed Daijiworld that those wanting to register to qualify for Gulf Voice of Mangalore can still do it before April 2. He expressed regret at the inconvenience caused due to the change in the closing date.

"The reason for preponing the date is if we get numbers much above the expectation, then there is no alternative to organizing audition round prior to April 30 contest.

Also, due to public demand, a new category has been added to the contest. Contestants in the age group between 16 and 18 will now have a chance to present their singing talent,” he said.

“The category was ignored this year due to poor responses in the previous years, but since we announced the contest we have been receiving enquiries for the category. If we get enough contestants, we will add the category into the contest”, said Peris.
