Ras Al Khaimah police announces 50% discount on traffic fines

Daijiworld Media Network - Ras Al Khaimah

Ras Al Khaimah, Aug 28: A 50 per cent discount on the traffic fines accumulated in 2019 and before has been announced on Thursday by the Ras Al Khaimah police department.

The discount will be available for a period of one month from September 1 to October 1, 2020. It also includes the cancellation of vehicle impoundments but excludes traffic fines for dangerous driving offences, a report by Khaleej Times stated.

"The move, in line with the RAK Police initiatives meant to bring happiness to the society, will hopefully encourage drivers to observe traffic rules and regulations, settle their accumulated fines, and reduce their financial burdens," police sources said.

Drivers need to make the payment online via the smart applications of the Ministry of Interior to avail of the discount, they added.

"They also need to visit the nearest service centre in the country to add the due black traffic points on their driving licenses so that they can then make an electronic payment," the police maintained.

However, traffic fines collected from dangerous driving offences have been excluded from this discount. It includes driving a vehicle in a way that poses a grave risk to road users' safety, driving a heavy truck in a hazardous way, driving a noisy vehicle, and escaping from traffic police.
