Daijiworld Media Network - Coimbatore (SD)
Coimbatore, Aug 28: Kuppuswamy Annamalai, the IPS officer turned BJP politician was booked by Coimbatore city police on charges of unlawful assembly and violation of the Epidemic Diseases Act. Earlier this week the former IPS officer joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Four BJP functionaries were also booked with him - District president R Nandhakumar, state general secretary GK Selvakumar, state treasurer SR Sekar and state vice president Kanagasabapathy.
The Coimbatore city police have registered a case against the five under sections 143, 341, 269 and 285 of the IPC and section 3 of the Epidemic Diseases Act on Friday, August 28 at Katoor police station.
Annamalai, joined the BJP at New Delhi on Tuesday, August 24 in the presence of general secretary P Muralidhar Rao and the party’s Tamil Nadu chief L Murugan. He had resigned from his service last September as the Karnataka cadre IPS officer.
After returning from Delhi, on Thursday he arrived at the party's office where he was felicitated in front of the office by offering a 'Vel' - Divine spear of Lord Muruga. He then addressed the media and the party members.
Stating his arrest, a police official said, "The city police have taken action against the former IPS officer and other BJP functionaries taking into account that they have conducted a ceremony by gathering a crowd at a public place, while the lockdown protocol was in force in the city. So, police have registered a case against Annamalai, Nandhakumar, Selvakumar, Sekar and Kanagasabapathy".

Sat, Aug 29 2020It is a big mistake joining the politics by Annamalai. He should have remained in police department and served the people selflessly.

From the day he joined BJP all his followers have changed their words about him..... This clearly shows that haters mind should be cleaned first

Fri, Aug 28 2020I suggest him to go back to farming and do social work rather being a member of a party which is not dominant in the state. He may be hated by the people just because of a member of a communal party although he was a good and honest police officer.
