Chikkamagaluru, Aug 31: The JMFC court at Tarikere in the district, which found that an employee who had worked as second division assistant in the forest department, had deprived the government of over a crore of rupees, imposed a fine of Rs two crore besides six months jail term. This judgement has become talk of the town now, as it has the ability to whip the corrupt people to sit up and take notice.

The man held guilty reportedly had caused loss of Rs 1.29 crore to the exchequer during his service. He had cheated the department which provided him livelihood and respect in the society and the court found it right to impose maximum penalty.

Mohan Kumar

Mohan Kumar, working as second division assistant at Tarikere forest department, had faked the signature of his higher official with the purpose of siphoning off government funds. He had got this money transferred to the account of his wife. After coming to know about this fraud, the then range forest officer had filed a money misuse case in the police station. The then deputy superintendent of police, Mallikarjunalpa, who was the investigating officer in the case, had filed charge sheet in the court in 2009.

Mohan Kumar not only took the money but also had killed his wife, driven by greed. His wife was shocked at the huge amount credited to her account and had advised her husband to mend his ways. He got angry and murdered her. In this case, the accused is in jail, and now faces the need to pay huge fine. The judge also mentioned that if Mohan Kumar fails to return Rs two crore to the government, he will have to undergo three years of additional jail term.
